Before you hire anybody, ask

• Ask whether the price is for the frame and glass only, or includes fitting, trim and making good the plaster.
• Ask how long the units take to arrive after you order — made-to-measure windows are often weeks away.
• Ask to see their licence and insurance certificate, and check the names and dates.
